To help the campus community navigate the road ahead, Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) has compiled the following Q&A to address many of your pressing questions.

Aug. 1, 2025
As more employees and students prepare to return to campus, Georgia Tech recognizes that parking and transportation are top of mind. To help the campus community navigate the road ahead, Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) has compiled the following Q&A to address many of your pressing questions. The team understands that the start of the fall semester may present challenges for some, and they are committed to taking extra measures to make transitions back to campus as smooth as possible.
Will there be sufficient parking on campus?
Yes, based on current permit sales and historical trends, PTS anticipates that overall campus parking will meet demand this fall. However, some high-demand lots may fill during peak times. In these instances, PTS will redirect permit holders to available alternative locations. PTS recognizes that this may cause inconveniences and appreciates your patience and flexibility as the team works to balance availability and demand.
How will PTS manage parking overflow?
PTS ambassadors and staff will be stationed at key locations in early August to help manage flow, provide information, and redirect as needed. The Georgia Tech Police Department will also be present to assist with traffic flow and congestion and promote safe travel across campus.
If I have to park in an overflow parking lot, will there be a shuttle to help me get to my workplace?
Yes, the Stinger Shuttle will be servicing the campus. Using campus transit to get from your parking lot to your workplace may require a transfer between buses. Click here to view shuttle routes.
I purchased a 2025-26 parking permit and want to change my parking permit to another location. How does the waitlist work?
If your preferred lot is full, you may join a waitlist. PTS will monitor lot capacity and notify individuals if additional parking permits become available within the permit year.
New 2025-26 permit passes go into effect on Aug. 15. How will existing and future parking permit holders access gated lots and decks before Aug. 15?
If you have a valid 2024-25 permit or have purchased a 2025–26 permit, you will be allowed to park in your assigned location Aug.1 – 14. PTS staff will be on-site to assist in the event you need to be redirected to another lot due to capacity.
New permit holders (i.e., 2025-26 permits) do not need to purchase a 2024-25 permit to cover parking for Aug. 1 – 14. Purchasing a 2025–26 permit is sufficient, and PTS will provide a grace period for those returning before Aug. 15.
Will parking deck and lot gates be open Aug. 1 – 14?
Yes, gates will be open leading up to Aug. 15, when 2025-26 parking permits go into effect. Those accessing these lots must have a valid 2024-25 or 2025-26 parking permit.
How is PTS managing campus parking and availability?
PTS is monitoring demand through permit sales and other data sources. The fall semester is a busy time on campus, and some lots will reach capacity during peak times. However, PTS currently anticipates that overall campus parking availability will meet demand and will be on-site to assist with overflow parking if needed.
Will parking regulations be enforced?
Parking regulations remain in effect. PTS will be focused on supporting a smooth transition and ensuring that parking access is consistent with permit status and safety needs. View rules and regulations here.
If I haven’t yet purchased a parking permit, what options are available to me?
PTS offers a variety of campus parking permits designed to meet the needs of each person who drives to campus. In addition to annual parking permits, PTS offers permits for those who want more flexible options, including carpool permits, flex permits, SmartPark permits, and more. What alternative modes of commuting to campus are available to me?
